Magnetic words have many other uses besides being on a fridge. Pick a metal surface. A mailbox. Or a phone booth. Or those wonderful cast iron posts in the New York subway. I like leaving words in public washrooms. But my favorite places to put them are parking meters or on a car, right above the door handle. Leaving the house with a pocketful of magnets is satisfying. It's like you have a pocketful of potential stories. Words also work very well at restaurants as a tip along with money. I like to put them on cash registers while I am waiting for the coffee. They even can work in cabs. Just leave them behind and whoever finds it will know what to do. The only time I have ever documented this word habit is this picture of a hydro pole. The words stayed there for a week, and then one night they all disappeared. I just imagine that person finding this little planned story that I have left for them on a surface that would not normally have text there. It makes me really happy.
